What Should Be Considered So That You Don’t Have Neck Pain?

Today, I would like to give you some information about neck problems, which are very common in society, that I think will be of use to you.

According to researches, 85% of us will have neck problems at least once in their life. So why are neck problems so common?

Considering the location of the neck region, we have the cranium, that is, our head region, on the upper part. We need some muscles to move our head in various directions, and these muscles are also located in the neck region. Considering how much we move our head in a day, one of the most important causes of neck pain is that we use our neck muscles too much.

Another important reason why neck pain is so common is that our neck muscles are quite superficial. To explain this situation better, every time we move our head to the right or left or in other directions, a vectorial load is placed on the neck muscles. Since our neck muscles are located on the surface more than other muscle groups, they are affected by these vectorial forces much more than our other body parts. This is the reason why neck stiffness is seen much more than waist stiffness.

While explaining the causes of pain in general, we physicians generally categorize the causes of pain into two. One of them is modifiable risk factors; the other are non-modifiable risk factors.

Considering the two reasons I tried to summarize above, it seems unlikely that we can change them. Let’s change now; In other words, let’s talk about the reasons why we will have a very low chance of experiencing neck pain if we are dependent on us and pay attention.

I think there are several main reasons for all our pain, not just neck pain. The good thing is that it is entirely in our hands to prevent these causes from occurring. In other words, if we take care to avoid these situations, the probability of experiencing pain will be very low.

These reasons;

-COLD

– MAKE SUDDEN AND REVERSE MOVEMENTS

-STRESS

I would like to give more information to you, my patients, about these reasons I mentioned.

The mechanism by which cold and stress cause pain complaints is quite similar. Both cause vasoconstriction of the muscles. To put it simply, think of our muscles as water. With cold and stress, this water turns into ice. This causes the normal position of our neck muscles to deteriorate and shorten. This shortening of the neck muscles also causes our neck curve (cervical lordosis) to be straighter, which should be normal. This is exactly what we call NECK STRAIGHTENING, which you hear very often from physicians.

In addition, stress in general leads to tension in the whole body, that is, to contract ourselves more. The reason for this situation is the excessive secretion of some hormones such as adrenaline in case of stress. These hormones secreted during stress cause not only pain but also many other diseases.

Making sudden and reverse movements also causes neck pain by causing our neck muscles to be loaded and stretched much more than normal.

In summary, let me try to summarize the issues that I want to give in this article for my patients.
