The Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children-IV (WISC-IV) measures the mental abilities of children aged 6 years 0 months to 16 years 11 months. intelligence test. WISC-IV is the latest updated version of the WISC-R Intelligence Test adapted to today’s conditions. It is the most comprehensive, most valid and up-to-date intelligence test in the whole world and in our country. The test is an original scale with important innovations and gives more information about the child. In addition to the intelligence level, it also provides clues about the child’s strong and weak mental skills. The results provide important information for treatment plan, clinical, and neuropsychological evaluation. On the one hand, it enables to identify gifted children, on the other hand, it ensures the preparation of appropriate support programs for children with weak mental skills that need to be developed.
*WISC-IV consists of subtests belonging to 4 mental skill sets: verbal comprehension, perceptual reasoning, working memory and processing speed.
*WISC-IV has a total of 15 subs, of which 10 are basic and 5 are backups. In cases where it is not appropriate to apply the main subtests for various reasons, substitute subtests are used.

*If the test is requested by a doctor, therapist or public institution, the test result is delivered to the specialist or institution with the knowledge and approval of the family.
*The strengths and weaknesses of the child are determined by means of this measurement tool. While helping the child to discover his/her strengths and to determine a program for this; By identifying the weaknesses, it will enable the determination of a program that supports the development of the child in the area where he is inadequate, the development of the existing weaknesses and the solution of the problem.
What Should Families Be Considered Before the Test?
-Be careful that the child is not sick and tired before coming to the test.
-The child should be well rested and his stomach should be full.
-The child should have slept while coming to the test and should be on a normal day in terms of motivation. Comfortable clothes are recommended.
It is recommended to stay away from discourses and actions that will cause anxiety to the child. If the child knows that this is an intelligence test, he may experience anxiety and not be able to show his real performance. Words such as “test, intelligence test, exam” should not be used for the child; instead a study be said to be done. Anxiety-inducing words such as “Do well, do well, listen well” should not be used.

Why should WISC-IV be done instead of WISC-R?
WISC-4 is the updated version of WISC-R. New skill sets have been added to WISC-4, thus increasing the number of tests. Taking the WISC-4 intelligence test will provide families with a more comprehensive, up-to-date and good idea of their child’s cognitive abilities. As the WISC-R norms are not up to date, it is no longer healthy and ethical to evaluate children with this test. Families; should ask whether the psychologist who will perform the test is a therapist who has received training from the Turkish Psychologists Association, and should not have the old version of the test available while the current version is available.
