What is anxiety? What is not?

Anxiety means anxiety among the people. Anxiety experienced by most individuals; It is the state of experiencing fear, anxiety, or intense anxiety about the future. Anxiety is a general term and is specialized in subheadings. These; It is classified as specific phobias, panic disorder, social anxiety, generalized anxiety disorder, post-traumatic stress disorder, and obsessive-compulsive disorder.

Individuals with anxious symptoms may consider the anxiety they experience as a situation that they cannot cope with. This anxiety pushes the person to have psychosocial difficulties, problems in interpersonal relationships or to experience certain difficulties in society. According to the DSM-5 diagnostic criteria, Generalized Anxiety Disorder is as follows;

Excessive worry and delusion (anxious expectation) about certain events or activities (such as being able to perform well at work or school) on most days for at least six months.

The person has difficulty in controlling his delusions.

This anxiety and worry is accompanied by three (or more) of the following six symptoms (at least some symptoms have been found on most days of the past six months):

Inability to calm down (restlessness) or being nervous or constantly on edge,

easy fatigue,

Difficulty concentrating or mind blowing

don’t get angry easily,

muscle tension,

Sleep disturbance (difficulty falling or staying asleep, or an unsatisfying sleep that is not restful).

Anxiety, delusion, or somatic symptoms cause clinically significant distress or impairment in social, occupational, or other important areas of functioning.

The disorder is not attributable to the physiological effects of a substance (eg, a drug of abuse) or another health condition (eg, hyperthyroidism).

F- This disorder is not better explained by another mental disorder

What is not anxiety?

It is not a lifelong psychological disorder.

Anxiety disorder regresses with appropriate treatment.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy is one of the most effective treatment schools for anxiety disorder.

Anxiety is necessary in people’s lives. Eliminating anxiety during treatment is not the goal. It is aimed to reduce anxiety to the level of anxiety necessary for people.

Anxiety does not end in death.

Panic attack and panic disorder, which are the subtitles of anxiety, are two different psychological disorders.

Not every panic attack is a panic disorder.

Intense anxiety and depression can be seen after one or more traumas.

Anxiety is a psychosocial strain, not a mental illness.

Anxiety can regress with psychiatric drugs, as well as with psychotherapy.

The level of anxiety is very important. Determining the level of anxiety also determines which method (medication, psychotherapy) will be used in the treatment.

Anxiety disorder may increase with substance use.
