What are the IVF stages?

In vitro fertilization is the assisted reproductive technique with the highest pregnancy rate today.

In this method, the ovaries of the woman are stimulated with special needle drugs, eggs are collected from her ovaries and fertilized with her husband’s sperm. After the incubation period of 3 or 5 days, the embryos are placed in the uterus.

IVF consists of stages as follows.

The purpose of stimulating the ovaries is to obtain as many eggs as possible. Although different drug schemes are used in IVF treatment, these schemes are generally similar to each other.

With the onset of menstruation, ultrasonography (USG) examination and blood measurement are performed in the IVF center. Blood estradiol level should be below 60 pg/ml, intrauterine thickness should be below 5 mm, and there should be no follicles larger than 10 mm in diameter in both ovaries. If suitable conditions are met, daily injections are started (Gonal-F, Puregon, Merional, Menogon, Menapur or Fostimon). Your doses are determined according to the previous IVF response, if any, according to the age of the woman, according to the weight, and the number of precursor eggs in your ovary. Your doctor will determine at what dose and for how long you will use the drugs. The IVF nurse will most likely tell you. The estradiol level in the blood is checked intermittently. At the same time, the development of the follicles is followed by USG. If the protocol is the antagonist protocol, daily injections of Cetrotide or Orgalutron are started with the recommendation of your doctor. If the protocol is agonits protocol, agonist injection (Lucrin etc.) is continued. If more than 3 follicles in both ovaries have reached a diameter of 17 mm and above, a cracking needle is performed (Ovitrelle or Pregnly). Egg collection is done 36-40 hours after the cracking injection (usually in the morning).
