Vitiligo is a skin disease with white patches on the skin. It frequently affects the eye area, lip corners, genital area, fingertips and toes. Apart from these areas, they can be found in any area on the body skin. It is an autoimmune skin disease. It is frequently seen in those with certain tissue types. Thyroid diseases, diabetes, vitamin B 12 & folic acid deficiency may accompany vitiligo. Vitiligo does not affect the internal organs. It only gives symptoms on the skin and hair follicles. If the hair follicles are involved, white spots can be seen.
In vitiligo, the melanin pigments that give color to the skin are lost. The same pigments are also found in the hair follicles.

Among the factors that trigger vitiligo disease, the main ones are;

• Sun exposure, sunburns
• Intense stress
• Traumas on the skin (itching, injury)

Vitiligo is a treatable disease. There are different treatment modalities depending on the location of vitiligo, how long it has been present and its type.
