TARE/Microcure-atom therapy is applied by placing a thin tube called a catheter into the hepatic artery and sending a patient-specific amount of Y-90 microspheres into the cancerous tissue through this catheter. Millions of spheres are sent at a time. The whole process takes about 60-90 minutes. During this period, the patient can sleep or stay awake by working with the treatment team without sleeping.

The key to TARE/Microcure-atom therapy is that the power of conventional radiation therapy is directed directly at the cancerous tissue. Thus, the effect of the treatment is strengthened and other tissues are not damaged by radiation. At the same time, it does not cause any side effects other than short-term and treatable abdominal pain, nausea, mild fever and fatigue in some patients.

After this treatment, patients are kept in the hospital for 1 day.
