Socratic Inquiry, Synthesis of Philosophy and Psychology

What is Socratic Inquiry?

We can say Socrates’ unique questioning or dialogue, speaking and procreation technique. It is a system for making the individual’s potential thoughts, approaches, and thinking systematics of which the individual is not even aware of, functional within the speech. (The definition can be diversified.)

Socratic Questioning and Therapy

When we take the Socratic questioning as a method, it can create a system for recreating any definition and concept you can think of.
Tastes, reality phenomenon, identity, personality, lies, good and bad, relationship angles and definitions, values, morals etc. It allows us to discover from scratch again the things we know to be true and the unwritten definitions whose accuracy and definition we do not question, in a pure way – our own mind.

We may not even be completely sure whether the psychological difference we experience (called disorder, distress and its derivatives in the general literature) is our own.

Therefore, before the psychological reflections of a system that does not belong to us first, Socratic Inquiry (We can only think of it as a method, we can say that the point we feed on is Psychology, Philosophy, actually everything.) helps us to clarify our definitions, everything and nothing, gain a vision, and will not end with writing here. It can lead us to enter the development cycle, it can create a path.

Sample Dialogue (Content and Query Detail May Change)

+ Do you think your thoughts are really your own?
-Yes, I can act on my own thoughts, if I can think, it belongs to me.
+ Does the fact that we can think mean it belongs to us?
Let’s imagine a 10-year-old child, can he have real thoughts of his own?

(The question can be repeated on the new information that emerges later on.)

When we look at this speech example, we can see an incomplete definition, that is, when we look at our thoughts from the example of a child, we see that our own thoughts are affected and exposed to a million internal-external factors until they reach a certain maturity and mental competence. These include parents, social environment, childhood, educational processes, street, any person or something we see in the market, a speech we hear and its derivatives.

The distinguishing point here is to gain awareness at the point where our mind has come so far (in the real sense) to destroy and redefine the mentioned cycles.
