Smile Design

1) How to make a smile design? Which studies are used?

It is the solution of the problems that arise as a result of the evaluation of the relations of aesthetic criteria such as teeth, gums, lips separately and with each other, with some aesthetic analyzes and giving the person a more beautiful aesthetic smile. Therefore, the photos of the person are taken first for the smile design. Aesthetic problems are detected through these photographs taken in the digital environment. Smile aesthetics are evaluated in two ways: white aesthetics (related to teeth) and pink aesthetics (related to gums). First of all, are there any problems with pink aesthetics? Or, what changes will be made are evaluated. For this, the patient’s gingival levels can be changed, sagging gums can be corrected with laser, etc. Then, white aesthetics is evaluated. The condition of the teeth, gums and bones is decided by which materials and how to correct the discoloration of the teeth in the mouth. In the digital environment, the ideal dimensions, colors and shapes of the teeth are decided by following the golden ratio. After this mock-up application made to the patient’s mouth, laboratory studies are started.

2) What materials are used for teeth in smile design?

Our most preferred materials are glass ceramics. With porcelain laminates, very aesthetic results are obtained with minimal material loss from the teeth, even with the no-cut method, which we sometimes call prepless. Apart from porcelain laminates, zirconiums, emax crowns, composite laminates are among the other materials we use.

3) What problems does smile design eliminate?

You will appreciate that when chatting with a person, we first pay attention to his teeth. Therefore, a person who has problems with his teeth, gums and smile behaves more shyly and unhappy in his social relations with his surroundings. Smile design increases one’s self-confidence. When he looks in the mirror, he feels happier and is liked more by the people around him. Sometimes, crowding in the teeth, deformities or closing problems can even cause joint problems in people. Since the closure of the teeth is brought to the ideal position after the smile design, such problems are prevented.

4) Can people apply a tooth design that they have seen in someone else in their own mouth? Or are you in favor of personal smile design?

Smile design is definitely a work that should be done individually. Everyone’s lip shape, facial features, gum positions and lower-upper jaw relationship are different. Therefore, all these are evaluated one by one and the most appropriate and aesthetic smile design work is done for that person. No person in nature is the same, so the smile design should also be different.

5) How long is the treatment process?

Obviously, the treatment process varies according to the procedures to be performed. 10-15 days of treatment is sufficient only for changes related to the teeth of the person. However, if soft tissue changes such as gums, lips, etc. are required, the process may take a little longer.

6) Who should have a smile aesthetic?

People with discoloration, deformities, crosses, missing teeth, dimensional problems, fractures, etc., or people who have excessive gingival or asymmetrical gingiva can have a smile aesthetic.
