Rhinoplasty is the general name of all surgical interventions that change the shape of the nose in order to change the function or appearance, or to regulate both. The most common functional nasal problem is airway obstruction. Aesthetic deformity in the nose may be of congenital origin, as a result of trauma or due to aging.
Each patient is evaluated in detail. The examination is primarily a detailed observation of the patient’s nose. Then, together with the patient, it is determined what is not right or what the patient is not satisfied with. Because the problem perceived by the patient and the problem detected by the doctor may be different. Afterwards, a detailed ENT examination is performed to investigate the presence of other accompanying deformities. These factors are important in the operation plan. Nasal tip evaluation is very important. It is tried to predict how the nasal support structures will be affected over time. Also, the airway is important.
I mostly prefer open technique rhinoplasty operations. This choice is entirely a matter of how the surgeon will feel comfortable. Your nose should match your face. If you have an unsightly arch on your nose, the tip of your nose is excessively drooping, or your nose looks disproportionate to the rest of your face because your nose is too thick or thin, rhinoplasty is the perfect solution to overcome these problems. Rhinoplasty (reshaping the nose) can change your appearance, increase your self-confidence and contribute positively to your health. In the meantime, existing respiratory problems are resolved in the same session and satisfactory results are obtained both visually and in terms of respiratory health.
Recently, I have been using ultrasonic surgery method for bone correction in my operations. This method is also known as piezo surgery method. It is a revolutionary method based on the cutting and breaking methods we used to use during surgery with ultrasonic sound waves. In piezo surgery, only the bone structure is studied, and vascular nerves and other soft tissues are not damaged. The biggest advantage of piezo surgery is that it can work very precisely in bone shaping and the patient’s desired nose structure is achieved.
In practice, I do not apply tampons to any of my patients in order to avoid the problems experienced by the patient due to the tampon after the operation. Since the patient does not experience pain, swelling and respiratory distress after the operation, he has a more comfortable process. Surgical incisions made during rhinoplasty heal without leaving any scars. Since I use dissolvable stitches for suturing the incisions and inside the nose, I do not remove the stitches. Again, after the operation, I remove the thermal splint that we put on the back of the nose on the 4th day and replace it with a plaster. After 2 days, that is, on the 6th day, there is no foreign body in the patient’s nose.
If our patient wears glasses, I recommend not wearing glasses for 3 months. In addition, he can easily start sports activities after 4 weeks.
