Contrary to the congenital normal anatomy of the ear, it is a situation where the angle between the head and the ear increases significantly and sometimes the ear folds are not completely defined, this is a situation that is not preferred from an aesthetic point of view and causes discomfort to the patient. It causes psychological problems and loss of self-confidence, especially in children.

At what age is the earliest I can have surgery?

The earliest preferred age limit is 7 years, since the ear anatomy is largely completed by the age of 7.

What can we do with newborn children?

If it is noticed that there are prominent ears in newborn babies within the first 72 hours of their life, it is possible to correct this condition without surgery by using special bandages and molds, since the newborn’s ear tissue is soft and malleable during this period.

Will there be visible scars after the operation?

Since the surgical incision is in the fold between the ear and the head behind the ear and the scar remains in this fold, the operation scar is not noticed.

What are the surgical methods?

It varies according to the anatomy of the ear tissue and the structure of the ear, but the most preferred method is the correction method using only permanent sutures. In addition, in some cases, it may be necessary to thin the cartilage in some places or to remove some of it, especially in hard cartilages.

Surgery and after:

The operation can be performed under local anesthesia or general anesthesia, especially in children, and the operation takes 1-2 hours. The crease between the ear and the head is entered from the back of the ear, and the ear is corrected using permanent special sutures in accordance with its aesthetic and natural anatomy, and then the incision on the skin is closed appropriately. and the patient comes out of the surgery with a dressing to cover the ear.

The patient is usually discharged on the evening of the surgery day and is called for control the next day and the dressing is opened, the patient is given an ear band ( tennis tape) It is recommended to use it for 3-6 weeks, the stitches on the skin are removed 10-14 days after the surgery and the patient is recommended to avoid blows to the ear.
