When the word alkaline diet is first heard, it may sound like a new invention and a new weight loss method, but in fact, we see that dietitians are not much different from the programs implemented under the name of healthy nutrition. As it is known, the basis of the alkaline diet is to drink plenty of fresh vegetables and fruits, drink plenty of water, and avoid processed foods, caffeine, soft drinks and alcoholic beverages. Perhaps it has the same characteristics as the Mediterranean diet up to now. However, an important point that I should mention again is that none of these diets or nutrition methods will be permanent unless they offer a diet that is suitable for the conditions of the period we live in. Human metabolism is not programmed to be fed with a single nutrient. Most of the nutrients have reference values ​​that should be taken daily. Among our building blocks, vital vitamins and minerals play a role. In other words, many ailments such as muscle wasting, ketosis formation in the blood, gout will occur in diets that we make by consuming only a protein diet or only consuming vegetables and fruits.


The alkaline diet is a lifestyle that should be started from childhood. The main purpose is to accustom the cells to complex carbohydrates by feeding them with fresh vegetables and fruits. In this way, diseases such as insulin resistance, which may occur in later ages, will be prevented. Optimal growth is possible only if internal balance is established in this way. Parents need to prevent acid accumulation by keeping their children away from foods such as sugar, chocolate, jelly beans, fast-food, chips, biscuits, which have lots of simple carbohydrates, low nutritional value, high acid load and high calories. If the body’s buffering system is insufficient in balancing this acid load, in the case of chronic metabolic acidosis, growth and development are affected at first. Proper and balanced nutrition gains importance here. Feeding their cells with fruits and vegetables instead will minimize the waste that may occur in the body. With this system, which was started in childhood, the body will be cleaned of wastes and the risk of catching diseases will be reduced to a minimum. For later ages, plenty of fruit and vegetable juices are recommended to neutralize the body.


There are protein values ​​that we need to take daily for the continuation of our body functions. However, the proteins we consume cause the accumulation of uric acid in the body. These cause cell damage. Let’s intervene with simple solutions, for example, by increasing the alkaline level of the body with plenty of vegetables and fruits that we will consume in our diet, and neutralize the acid accumulation. During the day, let’s add 2 portions of cooked, 3 portions of raw vegetables and 4-5 portions of fruit. Again, let’s support this with a minimum of 10-12 glasses of alkaline water. Let’s apply the 80% alkaline 20% acidic rule in alkaline nutrition, as in the 50-55% carbohydrate, 10-15% protein and 25-30% fat rule that we nutritionists apply when making your nutrition calculations.


Removal of acid-forming and weight-causing foods from the body; There are many studies showing positive effects on bone health, asthma and cardiovascular diseases, while providing strengthening of the immune system, protection from diseases, delaying aging and increasing the quality of life, skin beauty, lowering of high cholesterol, minimizing the problem of blood pressure.

When we look at foods that contain high alkalinity; vegetable juices, onion, parsley, broccoli, garlic, spinach, cucumber, barleygrass, alfalfa, dandelion, radish sprouts, black radish, paprika, chard, ginger, turmeric, mint, thyme, fresh green beans, lettuce, celery, carrot, arugula, lamb’s ear, raw lemon, banana, cherry, beetroot, lettuce, almond, chestnut, canola oil, flaxseed oil, fish oil, olive oil, goat cheese, goat’s milk. It is also beneficial to include them in our diet.
