Passive in Life – Aggressives

Human is a social entity; feels the need to freely express their feelings, thoughts, wishes and needs. Individuals who act using healthy behaviors; express their feelings, thoughts, wishes and needs in a positive and self-confident way. They are aware of their responsibilities, they know what they can and cannot do, and they easily express what they cannot do.

Individuals who perform passive-aggressive behaviors cannot express themselves in a healthy way. They either hide their feelings, thoughts, wishes and needs or express them indirectly, by allusions. Sometimes they even seem to accept and adapt to simple issues that they can solve by simply saying “No” and are prone to sabotage the job later on. In fact, the passive-aggressive person has aggressive feelings and thoughts in his inner world, but the expression of these aggressive feelings and thoughts takes place in a passive and negative way. Passive-aggressiveness occurs mostly in the form of avoiding confrontation with the individual in front of them. They struggle with feelings such as the fear of being blamed and the feeling of inadequacy, and as a result, they do not want to come forward and take responsibility.

So Who Are These Passive-Aggressives and What Do They Do?

  • Rather than talking about the issue with the person in conflict, staying quiet or acting angry,

  • constantly blaming others,

  • Who withholds kindness and love for criminal purposes,

  • Being constantly irritable even in very simple matters,

  • Reflecting negative emotions, hostile feelings with unbalanced actions,

  • Shows sarcastic, sullen or hostile attitudes in the normal state,

  • Making excuses whenever they do not fulfill their responsibilities,

  • Knowingly or unknowingly sabotaging the business and relationships of others,

individuals may show passive-aggressive behavior pattern.

How Can You Overcome Passive-Aggressive Behaviors?

  1. Recognize Your Behavior:Describe your passive-aggressive reactions.

  2. Understand Why Your Behavior Should Change: It is important to realize that passive aggression is not less aggressive simply because it is passive. Actually, passive aggression is an indirect form of aggression, not a milder one.

  3. Give Yourself Time:Recognizing and understanding your own behaviors is the first step towards change, but it may take some time to change your behavior patterns and reactions.

  4. Realize That Anger Is A Normal Thing: Anyone can feel a sense of anger in response to the behavior of others or to certain events. Keep in mind that this is perfectly normal.

  5. Be Clear, Not Aggressive: Clearly express your feelings and thoughts. Allow the other person to express their feelings, thoughts and behaviors clearly from their side.

  6. Be Ready and Open to Confrontation:Expressing your wants and needs can sometimes lead to conflict, but it’s not always bad.
