As in adults, ‘Obsessive Compulsive Disorder’, which we call ‘Obsessive Disorder’, is seen in children as well.

Obsessive-compulsive disorder can be mentioned if the child repeats certain actions and thoughts without stopping and usually for a long time.

Obsession in society; delusion ; The medical definition of this disease, known as obsession, is Obsession.

Generally, the age of onset is seen as 9-12 years old. It occurs with almost equal frequency in boys and girls.

obsession ; It is a condition characterized by the person having repetitive thoughts and engaging in repetitive behaviors called rituals or compulsions, usually in order to relax because this thought disturbs him.

Children who have this problem have certain recurring thoughts or themes in their minds. Especially in children between the ages of 2-6, gender is the most obvious physical symptom of children. These obsessive behaviors can cause different physical problems over time.

  • Child washes his hands after everything he touches, feeling extremely afraid of contaminating himself or others

  • Don’t try too hard to keep things neat and symmetrical.

  • Persistent worry and anxiety in aggressive and frightening thoughts that may harm the child or others

  • Constantly sleeping, playing or going everywhere with your child’s favorite cartoon character’s toy

  • Not drinking from a different glass other than a glass with a favorite toy figure print

  • Young teenager constantly checking to get in and out of the room, unsure whether to turn the light off or not

  • Sorting the items in the child’s room according to the same colors in the same direction

  • Having his parents read a book with his favorite character over and over again

  • He is usually in the direction of doing the work he does in a perfectionist, complete and error-free way.

  • Although all these situations are seen as an important behavior in development, in some cases, the desire of the child to establish control in the external world, the search for security or the daily life of the child becomes a difficult situation that leaves the child in a difficult situation.

  • If we talk about the causes of this disorder;

  • The attitude of the child’s parents,

  • Extreme Anxiety and Fear,

  • Psychiatric disorders in the family

  • It is about traumatic events that have happened.

  • Children in a certain age range hide these behaviors from their parents because they are aware that their behavior is irrational.

If the way of behavior causes negative situations in the child’s daily life, it is an issue that parents should definitely focus on when it affects communication disorder, academic success, eating disorder, sleep disorder, and social adaptation. If there is a psychological support, the problem can grow. Let’s not forget to observe the obsessions in our children in this period, early diagnosis is very important in the development of the child.
