How Nutrition Should Be During Pregnancy

A healthy and balanced diet during pregnancy is very important for the development of the baby. The healthy diet of couples affects egg, sperm quality and fertilization. Starting a healthy and balanced diet before pregnancy contributes to the development of the baby.

From the pre-pregnancy period, care should be taken to take all the basic food groups every day, to eat 3 meals a day and to consume adequate amounts of foods containing important vitamins and minerals such as calcium, iron and folic acid.

Fresh fruits and vegetables contain the best source of vitamins. Cooking, freezing and keeping foods for a long time causes them to lose their vitamins. Many canned foods also have little nutritional value.

As with everything, excessive use of vitamins A, B and C can adversely affect the developing baby. Before pregnancy, iron should be checked and if there is iron deficiency, it should be treated. Iron deficiency increases more during pregnancy, leading to anemia.

The most important vitamin for a healthy pregnancy is folic acid. It provides the development of the spinal cord and nervous system immediately after fertilization. It is very important to consume 400 mg of folic acid a day 3 months before pregnancy. Green leafy vegetables, nuts, almonds and legumes also contain folic acid.
