How can I follow my child’s development progress?

Parents carefully follow the developmental stages of their babies or children. Following these developmental processes both excites them and makes them alert to any delays. They evaluate the development process of their children by asking the doctor or looking at the skills of their children’s peers. When a delay is encountered in one of the developmental stages, they think that there is a problem and seek answers as to why this situation, which they see as a problem, is caused.

At the beginning of the questions that parents are most curious about; There are those about when their children can walk, when they can talk, or when they can acquire toilet habits. It is not correct to specify a precise time for these questions.

Some babies can walk at 10 months, while others can walk around 1.5 years old. Therefore, it is normal to have developmental differences between infants or children. Parents should not worry, but if they suspect a significant developmental delay, they should make the necessary evaluations and seek help from specialists. For example; It is expected that children will be able to walk until the age of 2, but if the child does not show any signs of walking in this age period, families should contact the experts and undergo the necessary developmental screenings.

There are a number of developmental tests created to follow the development process of babies and children and to determine whether there is any delay according to the age group they are in. As an example of these tests; AGTE, Denver, Gesell, Babley can be shown.
Among these tests, Ankara Development Inventory (AGTE) is among the tests applied in our center. AGTE is an assessment tool that provides in-depth and systematic information on infant and child development.

Inventory allows infants and children with developmental delays to be recognized at an early stage and to take necessary precautions. It evaluates different areas of development such as language cognitive, gross motor, fine motor and social skills-self care. When a suspicious or risky situation is encountered as a result of the evaluation, it allows early diagnosis and the initiation of the necessary treatment. For this reason, families should follow the developmental stages of their children well and have their children checked regularly.
