Nowadays, women are more encouraged about surgeries related to the vagina region, they attach importance to their external appearance and beauty in every aspect, and they do not avoid aesthetic surgical procedures, especially in the vagina region, which will make them feel better.

In addition, in some women, the asymmetry of the congenital or later small lips or the excessively large and drooping of the elephant’s ears bring along some psychological and functional disorders. To correct this situation, labiaplasty surgery is performed.

Vaginal aesthetics or vaginal tightening surgery can be performed in women who have loosened or have birth tears after birth. The hymen at the entrance of the vagina can be damaged in some undesirable situations. In this case, the hymen can be repaired. Hymen repair is usually performed under local anesthesia.

Some diseases related to the vagina can sometimes reach serious dimensions. These include vaginismus, vaginitis, vaginal cancer, vaginal sagging.

Vaginismus is a sexual dysfunction seen in women. It is defined as the involuntary contraction of the muscles surrounding the vaginal entrance, causing pain and soreness during sexual intercourse, and consequently sexual intercourse does not occur. Contractions and pain in the vagina are also usually revealed during the gynecological examination. 90% of the disease is of psychological origin. In the treatment of this type of vaginismus, results are generally obtained by applying local anesthesia to the vaginal entrance.

Vaginitis is the inflammation of the mucous membrane, which is the inner covering of the vagina. 90% of this type of inflammation is of bacterial origin. If left untreated, it can infect the uterus and ovaries, causing infertility, miscarriage, or low-weight baby birth. Treatment is directed towards the cause. Microscopic examination and culture are performed from vaginal swab and discharge to detect the causative agent. Vaginitis can also be of allergic origin, irritant type, or postmenopausal atrophic vaginitis or hormonal vaginitis type.

Vaginal cancer is mostly seen in the mouth of the uterus (uterus), which is located in the deep part of the vagina. Among female reproductive organs cancers, uterine cancer is the most common. Symptoms include bleeding after sexual intercourse, bleeding outside of menstrual period, bloody vaginal discharge, foul-smelling discharge, back and groin pain. Vaginal cancer is more common in women over the age of 50, those who have not given birth, those who are overweight, and those with a family history of cancer. It can be seen more often in those who marry at a young age, start sexual life early, give birth a lot, and do not pay attention to hygiene conditions. Smir test is very important in the diagnosis of vaginal cancer. Vaginal cancer can be cured if diagnosed early with this test. For this reason, a smir test should be performed at least once every 3 years.

Vaginal sagging is the sagging of the genitals lower than where they should be. As the age progresses, the ligaments that normally hold these organs loosen and become abundant. Sometimes the sagging can be very extreme and the patient can feel the cervix at the entrance of the vagina. Along with the genitals, the bladder may also sag. In this case, urinary incontinence may occur with coughing and sneezing. Vaginal sagging can also be seen in women who have given birth too much. Vaginal sagging can be prevented with some exercises in the initial phase. For this, exercises to contract the muscles around the vagina and perineum called Kegel exercises can be done. Vaginal tightening surgery can be performed if the patient is in reproductive age. If the patient is older and has passed the reproductive age, the uterus is removed and the vagina is narrowed.
