Water is the most important element after oxygen for human life and is an indispensable part of our diet. Although humans can survive for weeks without food, they can only survive for a few days without water. Although the water content of the human body varies between 42 and 75% according to age and gender, an average of 59% of the adult human body is water. Water plays an extremely important role in the functioning of body functions, in maintaining the balance of metabolism and in the realization of many biochemical reactions in the body.

When we feel cold on cold days or in extreme heat, such as on very hot, humid days in summer, the body’s need for water to maintain its normal temperature increases. In hot, humid weather, the body sweats and increases fluid loss. Therefore, care should be taken to increase fluid consumption on days when the temperature rises.

How much water should you drink each day?

As a general rule, it is recommended to consume 8-10 glasses (2.5 liters) of water to ensure the elimination of harmful substances in the body and to maintain body fluid balance. In order to strengthen the memory and think quickly, especially natural mineral waters with high pH should be preferred.

Water, which makes up 70-75 percent of the brain, is also necessary for memory. Water accelerates brain functions as a whole. The brain works slower when there is no water. The dehydrated brain’s capacity to hold information and form memory is adversely affected, which in turn reflects negatively on brain functions and memory. Water containing calcium and magnesium is considered “hard water”. Most of us do not care enough about the benefits of calcium and magnesium for our body. 70 percent of the daily recommended calcium requirement is provided by milk and dairy products, 16 percent by dried fruits and vegetables, and 6-7 percent by natural mineral waters. However, it is difficult to determine an exact figure for calcium intake with water, because there is also water containing 400 mg of calcium per liter, as well as water containing only a few mg of calcium per liter.
