External Ear Tract Infections

External Ear Tract Infections

Especially in summer, sea shores and pools are places we visit frequently to feel the heat less. Sometimes we get so depressed that we don’t want to get out of the sea or the pool. Here are some tables that can affect our ears in such cases. One of them is external ear infections.

external ear canal ( DKY ) Although infections are more common in summer, they can occur in any environment where the external ear canal can remain moist. For example ; Spa holidays or even after a simple shower can pave the way for this infection.

DKY Although humidity is an important factor for infections, hygiene in the water that will create this humidity is important. In particular, the monitoring of the sampling of pool waters and their spraying should be done very strictly. Areas with a certain amount of bacteria for sea water should be determined by the authorities and the public should be warned.

DKY infections have the potential to be painful and really spoil the holiday. The patient’s dky is very sensitive. By pressing the cartilage protrusion just in front of the ear entrance, which we call the tragus, a serious pain occurs. The patient’s hearing loss increases with narrowing of the ear canal and turns into a zoning sharp pain. Fever may be seen. One of the mistakes that are often made is to use ear cleaning cottons to clean the inside of the ear in light blockages. This causes the infection to spread more easily and even a dirt that swells with water inside is pushed to the bottom and creates pressure. That’s why we recommend a pre-holiday ear check. Pre-removal of potentially problematic dirt helps keep your vacation uninterrupted. It is worth emphasizing that by the way, what we call earwax is actually a secretion of the outer ear canal skin, which prevents fungus formation and reduces excessive moisture. Therefore, it does not prevent the examination and DKYIt is not necessary to clean the dirt that does not completely block the .

DKYIn the treatment of infections, contact with water is stopped as soon as possible. ENT After the examination, local antibiotic drops are started for infections that are thought to be bacterial, cortisone drops are started to reduce swelling and edema, and even an oral antibiotic is added depending on the situation. Painkillers are almost always needed. The patient is asked to use earplugs to prevent the slightest water from escaping, including the shower. The external ear canal is sometimes so obstructed that it does not even allow examination, in this case, a cotton strip, which will act as a wick in a sense, can be placed in the ear canal by the doctor, as the patient will not use the drops effectively. These patients should be followed up frequently. Dressing should be called every 2-3 days and the inflammatory discharges from the external ear canal should be cleaned. related to fungi DKY In infections, different drug treatments are applied. Therefore, it would be inconvenient for the patient to start the treatment on his own and may even increase the infection.

DKY It is not always possible to take precautions for infection, but prolonged contact with water increases this risk. Patients living with this chronic disease can use earplugs in the sea and pool. Ear cleaning should not be done with cotton swab, only wiping should be done with a dry cotton towards the outer ear canal. Drying machine should not be kept in the outer ear canal.

I wish you healthy days.
