Exercise ECG Test (Stress ECG)

Diagnostic tests are widely used in many areas where modern technology is used. It has a very important place in medicine as it enables the diagnosis and intervention of important diseases with early and accurate diagnosis. In order to analyze the results of a proposed diagnostic test comprehensively and reliably, the actual level of effectiveness of the diagnostic test should be checked first..
The aim in good medicine is to reach high performance diagnostic tests that can give high accuracy results with the least risk and suitable for economic conditions. If the diagnostic test is competent and powerful enough, it should be used.

T In the medical profession, the value of a test is determined by its ability to distinguish between sick individuals and healthy individuals. It is desirable that a diagnostic test is defective in every patient and normal in every healthy person. In other words, if the test can completely separate the normal person and the patients, the result of this test is very valuable. However, in daily life, unfortunately, most of the tests cannot make this distinction one hundred percent. In some people, the test is out of order even though there is no disease. ( FALSE POSITIVE )In some people, the test is normal even though they have the disease. (FALSE NEGATIVENESS)In cardiology, this should be taken into account by both the patient and the physician, especially in the exercise test.

The effort test is also an ECG shot, but unlike normal, the person is forced on a treadmill or with a bicycle, or both blood pressure and heart rate are increased by medication. THAT IS, THE CARDIOVAS SYSTEM IS STRESSED BY VARIOUS METHODS, MOST COMMON WALKING BELT ACCORDING TO EKG TAKING!

The increase in heart rate and blood pressure increases the workload of the heart, the purpose here is if there is a problem in the nutrition of the heart, ECGreflection on (ECG POSITIVE)or recurrence of the complaint (SYMPTOM POSITIVE)is expected.

The exercise test, which is most commonly used in daily practice for the presence of occlusion in the heart vessels, actually evaluates not only the heart or cardiovascular system, but also the respiratory system. A well-evaluated exercise test, apart from giving information about the condition of the heart, can also provide information about the exercise capacity of the person, namely the condition status, and the risk of developing cardiovascular diseases in the future.

As with any test, this test has weak points. It can not be applied to those who have knee and hip problems, and those who are overweight. Similarly ECGIf there is a change even while at rest or if the person is using drugs that affect his pulse or rhythm, the value of the test decreases or the effort test is not performed because it cannot be evaluated.

The value of the effort test result also varies from person to person. Factors such as the gender of the person, whether he is young or old, whether the complaints are typical, that is, compatible with the disease, affect the value of the test result.

for exampleIn a male patient over the age of 50 who presented with the complaint of pressure on the chest with walking, the effort test was defective. (positive)If it comes out, this probably indicates stenosis in the heart vessels, while the positivity of the same test in a 37-year-old woman who does not have any complaints and does not smoke is mostly false positive, that is, it seems as if the person has a disease even though he or she is not sick.

Similarly, the presence of vascular occlusion in the patient does not guarantee that the effort test will be broken. Roughly speaking, if there is a normal vein next to the occluded vein, the chance of the test being positive increases; however, although there are narrowings in all the vessels, the effort test may be completely normal. (Balanced contraction or balanced disruption of nutrition)

For this reason, while the test is being evaluated, not only the ECG findings, but also the patient’s age, gender, complaint, risk factors such as smoking and diabetes should be taken into account, and the patient should be guided accordingly.
