Everyone has faced distressing situations in certain parts of life. Thinking within the framework of problems and producing various solutions is a human behavior. While it is so normal to look for problems and solutions, what are you going to tell about this issue?
In this article, I will be talking about excess in thought and action, based on the phrase “Excess of everything is bad”.
It is possible for a person to understand the excess in thoughts and behaviors and overtime with the following two questions;
How much time does it take during the day?
Does it cause me to disrupt my daily routines and work?
We humans continue our lives with our feelings, thoughts and behaviors and the functionality in these areas during the day. However, this is not the case in people diagnosed with obsessive-compulsive (obsessive-compulsive) disorder. Most of the time, they live in a tiring turn.
An obsession includes thoughts, images or impulses that develop outside of the person’s will and make them uneasy and disturbing.
Compulsions are the mental or physical behaviors that the obsession causes in order to reduce or eliminate the anxiety in the person.
Types of obsessions (contamination, suspicion, symmetry, sexual, aggression, somatic)
Types of compulsions (checking, clearing, repeating, arranging, counting)
Matching and continuity between obsession and compulsion types vary from person to person. For example, I will consider the change in person.
Take someone with an obsession with doubt. We can see a counting compulsion in this person. It is possible to see a repetitive compulsion in someone with another doubt obsession.
Causes of OCD (Obsessive Compulsive Disorder),
Genetic Factors: Studies have shown that genetic transmission is effective. It has been found that genetic transmission is more common especially in the early age appearance.
Temperament- Personality Traits: People with a perfectionist structure are more prone to OCD.
Childhood Trauma:The susceptibility of childhood sexual abuse, physical neglect and abuse has been supported by studies.
OCD (Obsessive Compulsive Disorder) treatment process,
First of all, I would like to point out that as in all other mental disorders, a personal treatment plan is drawn up. In general, we can consider the form of treatment in three ways.
Medication and psychotherapy
As long as the treatment process is drawn with the help of an expert and the necessary motivation for progress is not left, it is possible to overcome it and the working hours will end.
