Prominent Ear Surgery

Prominent ear surgery; It is an operation that allows the ear to approach our head with operations performed under general anesthesia in children, under local anesthesia in adults, with an incision behind the ear and in the cartilage tissue, and it takes place in approximately 1-1.5 hours. We use a sports band that covers the ears after the surgery, it is used day and night for 2 weeks, and only at night for the next 2 weeks.

Postoperative Pain

You may feel moderate pain due to swelling in the ears for 3 days after the surgery. In the following days, the pain gradually decreases. After the first week, pain is not an expected situation.

Post-Surgery Recovery

You are discharged on the same day after the surgery. Bathing is allowed after 3 days. Dressing is applied regularly to the area where the stitches are applied behind the ear for 2 weeks. The stitches behind the ear will dissolve on their own after about 1 month. The swelling in the ear will completely disappear after the 2nd week. controls; It is done on the 3rd day, 2nd week and 1st month.

Post-Surgery Scars

Incision made in prominent ear surgery; It is not visible from the outside, as it will remain in the groove behind the ear. Since the skin behind the ear is very thin, it is already one of the areas with the least scars. It will become almost invisible in about 6 months.

Post-Surgery Considerations

  • It will be enough to rest at home for about 3 days.
  • Wearing the sports band for the time we recommend is essential to prevent the ears from reopening.
  • The dressing described should not be interrupted.
  • For about 2 months, folding and curling the ear should be avoided.

Side Effects That May Occur After Surgery

Blood Accumulation (hematoma): It is detected early. It can be prevented with a short intervention.
Opening the Seams: If the sports tape is not used, the seams on the ears may open. In this case, it should be intervened by your doctor.
Infection: It occurs when the antibiotics prescribed by your doctor are not used and the dressing is interrupted. Attention should be paid.
