Don’t Let Your Dentist Have A Fear

The thing I hear most on social media or from my patients who come to the examination is: “I want to have my teeth done, but I’m so scared that I don’t even want to sit on the chair.” is happening . That’s why I wanted to talk to you about this today.

First of all, I must say that fear consists of the intensity of emotion that we grow in our minds. And it is within ourselves to grow or destroy this fear in our brains. Of course, your dentist should listen to you and try to understand you, like a psychologist, a friend or any member of your family, in order to overcome this fear. For this reason, it is beneficial to have someone who listens to you, understands you, and with whom you can establish a warm and sincere relationship.

So what should we do to overcome this fear?

  • First of all, you should have a preliminary interview with your dentist. You should meet him and talk about your fears.

  • After meeting your dentist, if you are sure that your doctor understands you and you want to continue with him, you should learn to trust him. Because the first condition of overcoming fear is to trust the other person.

  • After your first examination, you heard from your doctor about what to do with your teeth. You can ask to start with the simplest of the procedures to be done. The biggest mistake is usually made in this part. Even though the patient who comes with pain is afraid, he wants to have the procedure directly, this time he is losing confidence in his doctor. So I think the first condition should be simple operations.

  • You should make sure that dentistry technologies and treatment techniques are progressing in a way that will increase your comfort in the last period.

  • Especially for patients who are afraid of needles (ie anesthesia), it is possible not to feel the needle with special gels applied to that area beforehand.

  • After the anesthesia, you should relax even more. Because your nerves in that area will no longer feel anything.

  • Before the procedure, you can raise your hand when you want to stop with your doctor, etc. You can feel comfortable by agreeing on such matters.

  • Now all conditions are favorable for you. All you have to do is take a deep breath and be convinced that you need this treatment for a beautiful healthy smile.

  • During the process, my advice is to focus on other things. For example, it may be a holiday you want to go, thinking of a loved one or humming a song can be a great solution.

  • And if you are afraid, you should see the dentist every 6 months or once a year to ensure that the problem in your teeth is resolved before it progresses. Because as the process to be done becomes more complex, you will have trouble.

  • It should not be forgotten that sedation and general anesthesia may also be an alternative for people who are still not convinced, which is our last resort.
