DENTAL LAMINATE

“Dental laminate” is a special thin porcelain in the form of leaves that provides a more aesthetic appearance by covering the front surface of the tooth. There are also denominations such as dental veneer, lamina, laminate, leaf porcelain. These special thin porcelains can be adhered to the front surfaces of the teeth to change the shape, width, length and color of the teeth. Although we have mentioned special thin porcelains, this treatment can also be performed with the composite used when filling the teeth. Using porcelain instead of composite as a material gives better results in terms of aesthetics. It provides an advantage over composite porcelain in terms of cost and a little less reduction is made than the tooth, but over time, the edges may become discolored.

Worn, cracked, broken, gaping teeth (especially between the front two teeth), misaligned teeth, root canal treatment, excessive use of fluoride, tetracycline or other drugs in childhood, leaking around large filling edges or discolored teeth due to other reasons. Aesthetic treatment with laminate can be done.

You can think of this treatment in 3 stages: The first appointment where your dentist examines, evaluates and informs you about your suitability for treatment, the second stage where the treatment starts, that is, the second stage where the tooth is treated, and the third stage where the new aesthetic teeth are attached.

For dental laminate, your dentist wears an average of 0.5 mm from the enamel layer on the front surface of your teeth. This amount is approximately the thickness of the dental laminate that will be adhered to your tooth at the end of the treatment. During the procedure, no pain is felt as numbing will be done with local anesthesia. Measures are taken from the teeth and the model of your teeth is prepared. A temporary tooth is made on your abraded teeth and attached to your teeth. Thus, you will not have any visual problems until the next appointment.

The harmony, color and aesthetics of the new teeth are evaluated. Your new aesthetic teeth are permanently bonded with special adhesives.

They provide a natural and aesthetic appearance in the mouth as well as having a very good gingival harmony. In this application, which also provides an extra thickness to the teeth, less material is removed from the teeth compared to other alternatives, and a more protective treatment is performed.

However, it is very important to make a clear decision about treatment as the process is irreversible. In general, they cannot be repaired, they must be renewed. After dental laminate treatment, biting nails and biting hard materials such as pencils can cause breakouts. It is important to quit such habits before the application. Otherwise, dental laminate is not a suitable treatment option for you.

They do not require special care. It is sufficient to continue using brushing, flossing and daily mouthwash. Although dental laminate is more resistant to staining than natural teeth, your dentist will ask you to avoid coloring foods and beverages such as coffee and tea as much as possible. It is a more protective, aesthetic and fast treatment compared to dental laminate alternatives.
