Dealing with Anger

Anger; It is an intense emotional reaction that is felt in situations such as being blocked, attacked, threatened, and usually results in aggressive behavior towards the person or thing that caused it.

Anger is a sign. Our anger; It could be a message that we’ve been hurt, that our rights or boundaries have been violated, that our needs or wants aren’t being met properly, or that something just isn’t right. Anger, when expressed in a healthy way, is a constructive and regulating emotion. Its proportional dose functions as a tool to inhibit undesirable behavior. Anger, like any other emotion, is a fairly normal and universal emotion. The important thing is to convey the anger in the right way, to the right person, in the right amount and in a controlled manner. The way anger is experienced makes it good or bad.

Anger manifests itself with various changes in thought, behavior and physiological symptoms. Person in anger; They may feel rejected, humiliated, or threatened. However, they may exhibit behaviors such as avoiding the environment, attacking or defending, and resorting to violence. In addition, various physiological changes occur, such as acceleration of the heartbeat, respiratory irregularity, sweating, tremor, and change in tone of voice.

It is important to know what makes us angry. Because when we’re going to do something about it, that would be a good starting point. We can avoid these things if possible, or work on how we better react when such things happen.

What makes anger such a dangerous emotion or something we want to avoid is that it seriously hinders our ability to think correctly and impairs our decision-making. Maybe at that moment, we are sure that we are right until the end, but later on, when we come to our senses, we realize that we were wrong or that our reaction was excessive. Individuals who have problems with anger management often experience intense guilt and shame after their outbursts. Many side problems such as heart diseases, hypertension, various psychological disorders, insomnia, concentration problems may also occur as a result of not being able to cope with anger.

Important issues in dealing with anger can be listed as follows:

2- Finding the source of anger and understanding why it is angry

3- Getting to know yourself and your values

4- Utilizing relaxation and calming techniques

5- Expressing anger

6- Problem solving and better communication

If anger is triggered by daily events that may seem unrelated most of the time, or if we are experiencing an intense emotion that is out of proportion to the subject or situation; Our anger may be a sign of our childhood traumas. And trying to control anger alone in such a situation can be difficult. I would definitely recommend getting a therapy support.
