What is Breast Lift Surgery?
Breast lift surgeries, or Mastopexy as it is called in medicine, are surgeries aimed at correcting sagging caused by different reasons and caused by the loss of volume of the breast tissue, loosening of the skin on and around the breast, or exposure to crack formation. In these surgeries, the differences in size and smallness between the breasts can also be eliminated.
There are 3 different stages of sagging in the breast as mild, moderate and high. Sagging at each stage can be treated using different techniques and methods.
Is There Any Scar After Breast Lift Surgery?
Breast lift operations can be performed with different surgical techniques. The flexibility of the skin in the region, the anatomical structure of the breast and the desired results are important factors in the selection of the techniques to be applied.
According to the method applied, there is a scarring in breast lift surgeries. These scars become obscure in a few years and do not attract attention because there are traces left in the bra and bikini used.
How is Breast Lift Surgery Performed?
Breast lift and lift surgeries are based on similar principles. The surgical method used to recover sagging with the breast’s own tissue is the upper pedicle superior technique, in which at least 90% of the breast tissue is preserved, called Vertical mastopexy. In this technique, the incision is made around the breast round and the line descending from it upside down to the mammary sulcus. This technique produces an image called a lollipop incision when viewed from the front. In this way, the breast is planned with a drawing so that the nipple coincides with the middle of the distance between the elbow and the shoulder, and the surgery is performed in that way. Since this recovery will be done with the breast’s own tissue, the person may not need any prosthesis. However, sometimes there is excess skin in sagging breasts, as well as insufficient volume of fat and breast tissue inside. In such cases, recovery but a silicone prosthesis is necessary. In this way, a similar procedure is performed from the same incision and the prosthesis is placed under the muscle. In this way, the weight of the prosthesis is carried by the muscle, not the skin, and in this way, the breast maintains its erection for a longer period of time. In case of pregnancy again, there is no problem as the mammary glands and nerves are protected. If the sagging of the breast after pregnancy and breastfeeding is aesthetically disturbing, revision surgery may be required, otherwise this surgery is not mandatory. This operation does not constitute an obstacle to pregnancy or breastfeeding to a large extent.
What Should Be Considered After Breast Lift Surgery?
Breast lift surgeries take approximately 3 hours and are performed in operating rooms under general anesthesia. Swelling and edema occur between 3 and 4 days after the operation. The swelling will start to decrease after the 5th day. After the 4th day, you can return to your working life. The person undergoing the operation should use a sports bra in order to take the shape of the breast within 45 days after the operation. It is important to avoid heavy sports until approximately 90 days later.
