In people who lose excessive weight, sagging occurs especially in the abdomen, inner parts of the legs, hips, arms and skin. The degree of sagging varies according to the age of the person, the amount of weight lost and the skin structure. After bariatric surgery, sagging due to rapid and excessive weight loss is more pronounced.
Body lift operation; It is the process of removing the sagging skin and fat tissue from the abdomen, hips, thighs and waist region and stretching the skin. In general, when we say body lift, it is understood that the middle body region is stretched.
Who are the suitable candidates?
-People who have completed the weight loss process and have no health problems that prevent the operation (The weight loss process takes about 2 years after obesity surgery. Therefore, body lift is planned around the 2nd year after bariatric surgery.)
– Non-smokers (Smoking has negative effects on flap circulation and anesthesia. It is recommended to quit 1 month before the operation).
-People who have realistic expectations from the operation
In the pre-operative interview, which areas to do, how many sessions of surgery are required are evaluated together with the patient and surgery is planned. For example, the recovery of the breasts with the arms can be done in the same session. In the second session, legs, hips, waist and abdomen can be done. General examination of the patient, necessary analyzes and anesthesia consultation are done.
The surgery is performed with general anesthesia. Unlike classical tummy tuck surgery, the incision is extended to the back (360 degrees, circular abdominoplasty). The patient is first placed in the prone position, and the excess skin in the hip and lumbar region is removed together with the adipose tissue. In female patients, if necessary, flaps prepared from the fat and skin to be removed are used to enlarge the hips, and these flaps are placed on the hips and the hips are enlarged. After the back and waist area is completed, the patient is turned to the supine position and the classical tummy tuck surgery is performed to remove excess fat and skin in the abdomen.
After the operation, depending on the surgery performed, two nights of hospitalization are required. There is a 1 week recovery period. After 6-8 weeks, sports can be done. The traces of the operation are planned to remain in the underwear. There is a period of redness for about 1 year, and with the treatments applied during this period, the scars regress to an acceptable level at the end of 1 year.
