Before and after face lift surgery

Facelift surgery is the surgical correction of visible signs of aging on the face and neck. It is done in one of three main parts according to the problems on the face: in the upper part of the face (forehead and eyebrows), in the middle part of the face (between the eye and mouth), and in the lower part of the face (chin and neck).

With gravity, sun, stress, the negative effects of smoking and aging, sagging and wrinkles appear on our face. Facial bones become thinner and lose volume. The muscles weaken, relax and begin to sag. Fat tissue weakens, decreases and becomes thinner. Therefore, the skin on it becomes loose, wrinkled, loses its elasticity and sags together with all soft tissues. Static lines appear on the face. Dynamic lines are formed with the clarification of the skin folds on the mimic muscles that have been working for years.

With the age of 30, the lines begin to become clear. Towards the 40s, the wrinkles around the eyes, which we call crow’s feet, deepen. The vertical lines between the eyebrows become sharper. After the age of 40, the loads on the eyelids create a tired expression. Tension is reduced in the lower lid. Ringing deepens. In the 40-50 age period, there are changes in the face oval, accumulations in the smile line and chin area. Lower lid bags appear. The cheek begins to split in two.

The face is slowly succumbing to gravity. Dynamic image becomes tired. The elasticity of the connections between the skin and the muscle began to disappear, and the tissues began to shift. The skin lays down. The neck skin relaxes and the angle between the neck and the chin disappears. Changes in the neck area begin to increase even more in the 50s. Relaxation in the neck muscles under the skin, fat accumulation in the jowl area occurs. Relaxed neck muscles create deep lines and bands at the front of the neck. From the nose to the edge of the lip, the skin folds and creates a deep fold. The fat pad on the cheekbone hangs down. The fullness on the cheekbone disappears. Wrinkles around the eyes deepen. Skin folds on the upper eyelids and fat bags on the lower eyelid wrinkles become prominent. Loosening and sagging occur in the forehead and eyebrows. The eyebrows are folded over the eyelids. The lines on the forehead deepen. An old, tired, unhappy facial expression appears. Over time, fatigue will create an image that will be considered old age.

If protective and rejuvenating interventions such as botox, filling, liquid face lifting, and ulthera were not applied at an early age, the method to be applied on sagging, wrinkled faces after the age of 50 is surgery.

Depending on the degree of change desired to achieve, the skin quality of the face and the degree of wear and tear, face lift operations are performed as traditional face lift, face lift with limited incisions or neck lift. Technical details are updated every day.

The face is evaluated in three parts as upper – middle – lower. Problems after the age of 35 that occur only on the upper face can be largely treated without resorting to surgery.

When surgery is applied after the 40s, especially upper and lower eyelid operations are sufficient. Depending on the situation, fat injection and temple stretching are also applied.

At the end of the 40s, sometimes deformations that require “mid-face lift” surgery can be encountered. When the 50s are reached, upper-middle-lower face lift surgeries are combined. However, if the person has received mini-surgical supports since his youth, these heavy interventions are not necessary.

We rarely perform neck lift surgery alone. Because the separation of face and neck treatments deteriorates the homogeneous and natural appearance. If the problems are located in the upper and partially midface, we prefer to combine temple lift and midface procedures.

We avoid mid-face operations that are exaggerated and take too long to edema. Surgical application limits should be determined well. We are in favor of combining neck, face and temple lift operations with liquid face lifting treatments and applying the treatment as a whole. Overstretching cannot respond to natural aesthetic concepts. Maybe we want to have the contours of our youth, but this should be done without exaggeration. It is the most ideal for us to bring the skin back to its former vitality by carrying the skin with its natural lines to the strong connective tissue under the skin.

Facelift surgery incisions usually progress downwards in the natural curve of the hairline on the temples. Returns to the inner part of the ear hole, re-exposed at the level of the earlobe, approximately 1 cm. it runs downwards and turns behind the ear. Half-ear length goes upwards and 3 cm. gradually comes to an end.

Facelift surgery is planned in two different layers. The upper layer is the layer that contains the skin and subcutaneous adipose tissue. The underlying layer is the strong but delicate layer of fascia, which we define as the SMAS. When the substrate is suspended vertically, the face provides its most effective defense against gravity. The underlying tissue (deeper facial and muscle layers) is repositioned. The second layer of skin that covers it is an important cover. With the up and back vectors, the superficial layer is propagated to the new face. Excess skin is removed. This layer carries less tension. This brings us nature. Especially shaping the earlobe, which preserves its natural position, is very valuable. It is a remarkable happiness to be able to collect the hair freely after the surgery and not to need camouflage.

Fat on the face, neck or neck can be reshaped. The sagging fat that has been defeated by gravity can be removed. A natural and youthful volume and shape is gained by supporting new fat injections. Saggy neck, loose neck skin and fat accumulation under the chin can be corrected with a neck lift. A second incision is made under the chin to regain the neck angle. Neck muscles are tightened. The neck jaw angle is regained. Shorter incisions can also be made on the temples. Great care is taken to protect the hair follicles in the incision lines in the hairy area. The incisions are meticulously hidden in private areas within the natural folds of the face and ear.

Facelift surgery is an important decision. You should understand the type of operation, its results, whether it will meet your expectations, and its potential risks and complications. After discussing it with your doctor, you should make the decision to walk on this path. Facelift surgery is performed under general anesthesia. The duration of the operation varies between 4 and 6 hours. Depending on the duration of the operation, the patient may leave the hospital on the same day or stay in the hospital for one night in long-term procedures. Additional procedures affect the duration.

After the operation, edema and bruises disappear to a large extent in 7-10 days. Stitches 7-10. When it is taken on days, make-up can be applied and it can be returned to daily life. Visible results of facelift surgery appear as swellings and scars are removed. It may take weeks for the swelling to disappear completely. After about 6 months, the scars of the operation become hardly noticeable. Our patients return to social life quite well at the end of a month.

You should not smoke for at least three weeks before and after the surgery. After the surgery, sun protection and high protection factor creams should be used for a few months. Life-long protection from the sun prevents premature aging, minimizes sun damage and gives continuity to the results you get. Adopting a healthy lifestyle will also help you maintain your renewed and rejuvenated image for longer.
