Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) in children

Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder is a neurological and organic disorder. Only hyperactivity and impulsivity can be seen in the child. Hyperactivity and impulsivity can sometimes be accompanied by attention deficit. Anatomical and functional disorders in the brain as well as environmental and genetic factors have a great impact on the formation of ADHD. It has been proven that the brain development of children diagnosed with ADHD is different from those of healthy growing children. Diagnosis is made by child and adolescent psychiatrists. In addition to anatomical and functional disorders in the brain, genetic and environmental factors have an effect on the formation of ADHD. Brain development is different from healthy children. There is a delay in maturation in important areas of the brain. ADHD has three main symptoms.

LACK OF ATTENTION: The inability of the person to pay attention and maintain his attention on the desired task. The child cannot devote himself to the game and the activity in which he is involved, or one game switches to another before the activity ends. Their attention span is short-lived and easily distracted. They have trouble staying organized.

HYPERACTIVITY: The child’s high level of mobility, inability to stay still, constant fidgeting in a place where he should wait.

Impulsivity: It is when the child acts without thinking about the consequences of his own behavior. This situation leads to the deterioration of the child’s social relations and exclusion. They have trouble with authority. Children with ADHD cannot make sense of this situation, they try to cope with the social exclusion as well as the difficulty it creates for themselves. They are unfairly punished and they make mistakes more often. The family’s behavior and attitude should be evaluated together with the child. ADHD is a condition that can be decided as a result of a medical diagnosis. It does not disappear, it can only be managed. The families of children diagnosed with ADHD should review their attitudes from now on. Parents should support each other in being disciplined.

8-Children should be given responsibility and included in the process of housework.

9- When he is angry, prevent him from harming himself, others or the environment and make him express his anger. After you’ve calmed down, talk to him about the behavior.

10- It should be ensured that he acquires sports activities and special interests that will enable him to lose his energy.

11-It will be easier to gain positive behavior with flexible and applicable rules instead of disciplining with very strict rules.
