Abortion

Abortion is the process of evacuating the contents of the uterus. It is a medical intervention in miscarriages, pregnancies with anomalies, in cases where the baby dies in the abdomen, in cases where the pregnancy threatens the mother’s health and in unwanted pregnancies.
Termination of unwanted pregnancies is legal up to 10 weeks in our country. Unmarried people over the age of 18 can have an abortion voluntarily. Married spouses also need permission. Those under the age of 18 require parental consent.
Abortion is performed with local or general anesthesia. Without anesthesia, it is a very painful procedure.
In local anesthesia, the cervix is anesthetized by injection with anesthetic drug. It is difficult to say that it will be a completely painless intervention. General anesthesia, on the other hand, is in the form of anesthesia lasting 5-10 minutes by an anesthesiologist, it is not as deep as surgical anesthesia, the patient wakes up in a short time and can continue his daily activities within 1-2 hours. Since anesthesia will be given before the intervention, he should not eat or drink anything until 5 hours before. Because in the intervention performed on a full stomach, the patient may vomit due to anesthesia and the stomach contents may escape into the respiratory tract.
Abortion with general anesthesia is a very comfortable and painless method for the patient, and it is especially recommended for people who have never given birth. Before the intervention, whether the person has an important disease, drug use, drug allergy should be questioned, and necessary precautions should be taken for current situations. Necessary tools and medicines for emergencies should be kept in the place of abortion and sterilization should be paid attention to.
A very important complication is not expected in abortions performed within the legal period. Sometimes, it is desired to terminate the pregnancies that are too small to be seen on ultrasound. Physician should determine the most appropriate time for abortion, pregnancy; It should be visible in the ultrasound control of the uterus before and after the intervention. (at least 5 weeks old)
There may be no bleeding after an abortion. The first period will be 30-40 days later. Previous bleeding is not menstrual bleeding. Sometimes a small amount of bleeding can continue for 15 days. The condition called fragmentation may occur with excessive bleeding approximately 13-15 days after the intervention.
The development of infection is about 4-5 . It may occur with complaints such as groin pain, foul-smelling discharge, pain during urination and defecation, which is a very rare condition since preventive antibiotics are given. When these complaints occur, a doctor should be consulted.
Sometimes it is possible to get pregnant right away without having a period. Therefore, if the menstrual period is delayed for more than 40 days, a doctor should be consulted. After some deep abortions, menses can be interrupted. In this case, there may be no response to the drugs given for menstruation. Diagnosis and treatment is possible with hysteroscopy and drug therapy.
Having an abortion in a woman who has not given birth has no adverse effect on her being pregnant again later on. This idea is common among the people and they do not want abortion even for women who have had abortions.
In pregnancies that exceed 10 weeks, died in the womb or should be terminated because they threaten the mother’s health, abortion is performed first with drug therapy, with the decision and report taken by the health board; then it is checked with the instrument so that no parts remain.
As a result, abortion is not a birth control method, except for medical needs. The important thing is to do the birth control in place and to have the desired pregnancies at the desired time.
