Ginkgo biloba extract, produced from the leaves of the ginkgo tree, is one of the 10 best-selling herbal remedies in the United States in Europe, used to treat symptoms of early-stage Alzheimer’s disease, antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, vascular dementia, and tinnitus of vascular origin.

Studies have shown that it significantly improves sleep patterns by increasing sleep efficiency and decreasing awakenings, while sleep stage 1 and REM intensity decrease while stage 2 increases.

Female inflorescences of Humulus lupulus (hops) have long been used in traditional medicine to treat sleep disorders, well known as a bittering agent in the brewing industry. The traditional use of hop preparations in nervousness, anxiety and sleep disorders has been proven by studies.

A randomized, double-blind, controlled trial in patients suffering from sleep disorders demonstrated equivalent efficacy and tolerability between a hops-valerian preparation and a benzodiazepine drug.

The combination of hops and valerian improved sleep by solving insomnia by acting as a modest hypnotic.

Hops may be responsible for allergic reactions in sensitive individuals. Signs of marked bronchial irritation, dry cough and shortness of breath were observed in hops processing workers.
